I hate word searches! When you get a word search for a grade when you have other work to do, you will too. The reason why is that there are very few ways to complete a word search faster when doing it by hand.
A word search, just like its name says is a search problem. You search for letters to build words and find the complete words. In some search problems you can break the problem into smaller sections and complete the smaller section faster. In a word search you cannot because the fill in letters are placed at random.
However once you find a pattern that is part of one of your words, you can locate the full word quickly with your brain's patter matching skill.
If you choose to randomly search the grid each time, you will end up with a headache. There is no one good way, but I like to scan from left to right, top to bottom. However if you can look for multiple words at the same time you will be able to improve your search
